Mumbai’s skyline is breathing easier following an unexpected weekend downpour, signaling a positive shift in the city’s air quality. According to SAFAR, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 78, reaching the ‘satisfactory’ category. While some areas recorded ‘moderate’ AQI levels, the city is experiencing a significant improvement after unseasonal rain and thunderstorms earlier this week.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data highlights specific areas with varying AQI levels. Notably, Bandra Kurla Complex and Borivali East fall into the ‘moderate’ category, while Byculla, Chembur, and Worli boast ‘satisfactory’ air quality.

Temperature-wise, Mumbai enjoyed a pleasant morning with temperatures ranging from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts continued clear skies in the city and suburbs.

In a commendable move to combat air pollution, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed pollution control measures on November 21. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) swiftly completed the repair work of Khar Subway within a week.

A noteworthy initiative includes equipping Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) buses with air purifiers. Out of the planned 350 buses, 21 have already been fitted, with 13 receiving rooftop air purifiers on November 28. This innovative step promises a cleaner and healthier future for Mumbai.

As the city embraces these progressive measures, it’s evident that Mumbai is not only addressing its current air quality challenges but also paving the way for sustainable environmental practices. The commitment to cleaner air reflects a brighter, healthier future for residents and visitors alike.
